Iron Harvest: Operation Eagle

Summary

Iron Harvest: Operation Eagle is a major expansion for Iron Harvest, developed by KING Art Games, including a new faction, a new campaign, and new units for all factions.

Responsibilities

Many of my responsibilities for this project carried over from Iron Harvest with some additions:

  • Adjusted existing AI and meta-competitive systems to correctly use the new “airship” unit type.

  • Identified and executed on opportunities for quality-of-life features within scope based on player feedback.

  • Researched and conceptualized “New Game+” feature.

Achievements

I adjusted the game’s AI systems to ensure they would use the new “airship” unit type appropriately both within moment-to-moment gameplay, as well as the game’s Reserve Picking system.

In addition, I conceptualized and iterated on additional improvements to our AI systems, such as the AI being able to use unit abilities in appropriate contexts and players being able to toggle this for their own units.

During the initial stages of production, I also looked into the feasibility of a “New Game+” feature; a very uncommon element within the genre.

Results

Unfortunately my research into a “New Game+” feature concluded we did not have sufficient resources to execute any concept of the feature within the game’s framework that would have met our quality expectations and remained within scope.

Despite this, I was able to otherwise fully deliver adjustments to our AI systems that made appropriate use of the new unit type, as well as a variety of quality-of-life improvements for the game in time for launch.
